Design and Access Statements

Circular 01/06 (Communities and Local Government): Guidance on Changes to the Development Control System came into effect on August 10th 2006 and requires that all building projects presented for Planning permission provide a Design and Access Statement. The access statements look at access in its widest sense and the aim is to widen participation at all levels of society.

The Access Collaboration can provide Design and Access Statements for schemes large and small. We have wide experience working with Building Control officers and of providing such statements.

During construction Building Control may also require further access statements to identify where Approved Document M (Building Regulations 2000 as amended in 2004) cannot be met as set out in the examples laid down in the guidance and to identify how they can be met in another equally effective way.
